Where Papa's Pizzeria, Papa's Freezeria and the rest have you cooking against a timer, the platformer branch — which began with 2011's Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack! — puts you in direct control of a character running, jumping and fighting across levels. This sequel was teased on February 4, 2013, officially announced on March 25, and released on June 5, 2013, as a free browser Flash game on Flipline's own site.
The plot escalates the original's premise: a strange portal opens at the Burgeria, and giant monster burgers called Burgerzillas start rampaging through town alongside an overgrown onion and a wild-eyed radish who are behind the chaos. Papa Louie himself gets kidnapped, and it falls to Marty, Rita and a growing cast of familiar restaurant customers to fight through Burgerzilla-infested levels and rescue him. Where the first game in the platformer branch was a fairly small-scale story about a pizza-themed threat at a single restaurant, this sequel widens the scope to the whole town, with the portal acting as a constant source of new Burgerzilla variants rather than a one-off event.
The gameplay is straightforward platforming: arrow keys move and jump, down lets you duck or slide, and the spacebar swings your character's weapon — a spatula by default — at nearby enemies, with jumping on top of most enemies also stunning them. Coins and heart containers are scattered through each stage, blue checkpoint marks save your position mid-level, and reaching the end frees a customer trapped in a cage, who then joins your roster as a new playable character with a unique weapon and, in some cases, a special skill.
By the end of the game there are 28 playable characters to unlock, each pulled from the existing cast of Papa's restaurant regulars rather than introduced fresh — notably, this is the only game in the platformer series that does not debut a single new customer, leaning entirely on faces returning players already know from the cooking games. That choice makes the sequel feel like a reunion tour: characters who only ever silently placed orders in the Papa's games get their own weapon, their own play style and a reason to fight. Because every unlock is a character players may already recognize from a completely different genre of game, part of the appeal is simply seeing how a familiar face has been redesigned as a fighter, from the weapon they carry to the way they move.
It suits two overlapping audiences: existing Papa Louie and Flipline fans who want to see their favorite restaurant customers in an action role instead of behind a counter, and platformer fans who enjoy character-collection structures where clearing a level earns you a genuinely different way to play the next one. The difficulty climbs gradually as Burgerzilla variants get tougher and levels add more hazards, but it never strays from family-friendly cartoon combat, and returning to an early level with a late-game character unlock is often the easiest way to feel how much the roster has grown.
On LemonArcade, Papa Louie 2: When Burgers Attack! runs free in the browser with no download and no account needed. Each level is short enough to finish in a few minutes, so it works well in quick sessions, and while the controls are built for keyboard and work best that way, the cartoon presentation and lack of any real violence make it an easy, low-pressure pick for younger players as well as longtime fans of the Papa Louie world.
