Flipline announced it on their blog on July 12, 2011, after a trailer went up on their YouTube channel weeks earlier, and released the full game on August 5, 2011, following Papa's Pizzeria, Papa's Burgeria and Papa's Taco Mia in the same series.
The setting moves the whole series to Calypso Island, a fictional tropical resort where Papa Louie has opened an ocean-front ice cream shop and promptly leaves you, the player, in charge for the busy summer season. Series regulars Alberto and Penny work alongside you, and the cast of customers pulled from across the Papa Louie universe gives returning players plenty of familiar faces to serve, each with a running order history that gets more elaborate the more you play.
Every order moves through four dedicated stations rather than one continuous build like earlier Papa Louie games used. At the Order Station you take down the customer's cup size, mixable and syrup choices. At the Build Station you pour the ice cream base and add the requested mixables. At the Mix Station you blend everything to the exact consistency ordered — smooth, regular or chunky — and at the Top Station you finish with whipped cream, cherries and whatever toppings the ticket calls for. Getting all four steps right, and fast, is what separates a big tip from a customer who walks out unhappy.
The difficulty curve comes from volume rather than complexity in any single step: as in-game days pass, more customers arrive at once, their orders grow more specific, and juggling several sundaes through all four stations simultaneously becomes the real test. It's a calmer pace than Papa's Pizzeria's constant station-hopping, trading physical rushing around for careful multitasking between build, mix and topping — a shift that made Freezeria one of the more approachable entries for players newer to the genre.
It suits fans of the Diner Dash-style time-management genre generally, and Papa Louie regulars specifically, since customer stories and unlockable toppings carry over the series' running gags and character continuity. It was popular enough that Flipline later built Papa's Freezeria To Go!, Papa's Freezeria HD and Papa's Freezeria Deluxe as separate paid releases on other platforms, but the original browser version remains the free entry point into that lineage.
On LemonArcade it runs free in the browser with no download or account, controlled entirely with the mouse — there's no keyboard input needed at any station. It works reasonably well on touchscreens standing in for mouse clicks, though the precise pours and blends at the Build and Mix stations are a little easier to judge with a cursor than a fingertip. A single day's shift runs five to ten minutes, and the difficulty stays gentle for the first several days before ramping up as the customer list and topping options both grow.
