Chromebooks have taken over classrooms. Light, fast to start up, affordable — schools love them. But for students, it's often a frustration: few applications, network restrictions, impossible to install anything. That's exactly why LemonArcade exists.

Every game on the portal is pure HTML5. No plugin, no extension, no download. They open directly in Chrome, in a few seconds, even on shared school Wi-Fi connections.

Here is our selection of the 10 best games to try on your Chromebook — tested and validated on standard school hardware.

1. Slope

Skill · Solo · Ultra-lightweight

A green ball rolling down an infinite slope. Avoid obstacles, don't fall into the void. Simple to understand, impossible to master. Slope is probably the most-played game in high schools around the world — and for good reason: it's perfectly suited to short sessions.

Why it works on Chromebook: minimalist graphics, loads in under 2 seconds, no resources required. Controls: left/right arrow keys.

2. Smash Karts

Multiplayer · 3D · Account optional

Karts, arenas, power-ups, and opponents to eliminate. Smash Karts is often compared to Mario Kart Battle Mode — and that's the best compliment you can give it. Multiplayer works without an account; you join a game in 10 seconds. See also our guide to the best multiplayer games in class.

Tip: play in windowed mode if your Chromebook gets warm — performance is identical and your battery will thank you.

💡 Smash Karts runs in 3D WebGL. On some very old Chromebooks (pre-2018), enable hardware acceleration in chrome://flags if the game lags.

3. Retro Bowl

Sport · Solo · Ultra-lightweight

American football in pixel art with surprisingly deep simulation. You manage your team, recruit players, and play the offensive phases. The throwing mechanic is ultra-satisfying. It's the ideal game for a 10 to 30-minute break. Read our complete Retro Bowl review.

Why it works on Chromebook: retro 2D graphics, under 1 MB, works even with just one bar of Wi-Fi.

4. Cookie Clicker

Idle / Clicker · Solo · Ultra-discreet

The clicker game par excellence. You click a cookie, buy upgrades, and watch your biscuit empire grow on its own. Discreet, silent, playable even when the teacher is looking your way. Progression can last weeks.

5. Geometry Dash

Rhythm / Platformer · Solo · Lightweight

Jump in time with the music to guide your cube through obstacles. Easy to understand, brutally hard to complete. Geometry Dash is frustrating in the best way: every death makes you want to try again immediately.

Tip: start with level 1 (Stereo Madness) before tackling community levels.

6. Stickman Parkour

Platformer · Solo · Ultra-lightweight

Your stickman must chain together jumps, slides and rolls through increasingly technical urban levels. Visually simple, but advanced levels demand real precision. Perfect for 5 minutes of letting off steam.

7. Chess

Strategy · Solo / 2 players · Silent

The timeless classic. The browser version includes an AI with several difficulty levels, and a 2-player mode on the same screen. Ideal for computer class — nobody can complain that you're playing chess.

8. Snow Rider 3D

Racing · Solo · Lightweight 3D

Sled down a snowy mountain, dodge trees and obstacles, collect gifts. A visually clean 3D game that runs perfectly on recent Chromebooks. The sense of speed is excellent and short sessions are very satisfying.

9. Basketball Stars

Sport · 1v1 · Lightweight

A 1v1 basketball game with simple but engaging mechanics. You can play against the AI or face a friend locally. Controls are intuitive, progression is fast. Perfect for a break between classes.

10. Drift Hunters Pro

Racing / Drift · Solo · 3D (mid-range PC required)

The best drift game available in a browser. Customisable cars, varied circuits, convincing drift physics. Note: this game is more demanding than the others on this list. On a recent Chromebook (2020+), it runs fine. On an older model, prefer Drift King which is lighter. Read our Drift Hunters Pro vs Drift King comparison.
