This version is distributed through GameDistribution, credits no studio, and shares no code or assets with DVloper's game. What it borrows is the premise: an old woman who hunts you through a house, and a door you need to unlock before she catches up.
You start inside a shuttered house with no idea where the keys are. Each level is an escape puzzle: search rooms, open drawers and cupboards, pick up keys and tools, and use them on the locks that stand between you and the exit. The house is laid out so that the useful items sit in the rooms furthest from where you begin, which forces you to cross open corridors where the granny patrols. Finishing a level opens the next, with a new layout and more locks to deal with.
Sound is the mechanic that organises everything. Walking at normal speed makes noise, dropping or knocking objects makes more, and every sound draws the granny toward its source. Holding Shift puts you into a slow sneak that is almost silent, and the whole game becomes a negotiation between the time you can afford and the noise you can afford. When she does spot you, the only answers are to break line of sight and hide, or to accept a restart of the level.
It is a compact game rather than a long one. Unlike the original Granny, which gives you five in-game days and a single large house, this version is built as a sequence of shorter levels that each take a few minutes once you know the route and considerably longer the first time. The scares come from the jump of hearing footsteps in the next room rather than from gore, and the horror is atmospheric: dim lighting, creaking floors, a house that feels bigger than it is.
It suits players who like stealth puzzles with a fear factor and who do not mind restarting a level several times to learn where the granny walks. Anyone who wants the full Granny experience, with its bear traps, multiple enemies and secret escapes, will find this thinner, but as a quick browser scare it does its job.
On LemonArcade it runs free in the browser, no download or account, on desktop with mouse and keyboard and on mobile with a virtual joystick and tap-to-interact. Levels run five to fifteen minutes and the difficulty is front-loaded, since the hardest part is your first blind search of each house. Headphones help, because the game tells you where the granny is through sound long before you see her.
