A needle has gone missing somewhere in an enormous haystack, the car will not start without it, and the only way forward is to work through the hay one handful at a time. It is distributed through Playhop (the international storefront of Yandex Games); the listing does not credit a named studio, so the developer cannot be verified here and is not guessed at.
The loop is deliberately simple. You drag through the haystack, stalks fly off, straw piles up in your inventory, and every now and then something that is not hay turns up. Straw is the currency: sell it at the farm and the coins go into better equipment. A pitchfork moves more hay per swipe than bare hands, a magnet pulls metal toward you, and later a bomb blasts a whole section of the pile away at once. Each purchase visibly shrinks how long the next stretch of searching takes.
What keeps it from feeling like pure busywork is the farm around the haystack. There is a cow to feed, which rewards you for keeping her happy, and a small economy of straw, coins and upgrades that gives every session a short-term goal even when the needle itself stays hidden. The game is rated 6+ on Playhop, has no combat, no timers that punish you for stepping away, and no fail state: you cannot lose, you can only take longer.
Because the haystack is finite, the game is really about efficiency rather than luck. The first run through the pile is slow and a little chaotic; by the time you have the pitchfork and the magnet, you clear hay in broad strokes and the needle becomes a matter of coverage. Once found, the game records your time, and beating your own record is the natural second goal: same haystack, better tools, faster search.
It belongs to the same family of one-task idle games as the button-clicking and merge titles in our Idle and Casual categories, but the theme does a lot of work. Hay scattering off the screen, the cow wandering at the edge, the slow reveal of the pile's floor: it is designed to be played with half an attention, on a phone as much as on a desktop, in sessions of five minutes or an hour.
If you like the shape of it, the closest neighbours on LemonArcade are the tidy-up and progression games in our Idle and Cosy categories: the ones where a big, messy task shrinks visibly with every upgrade. Compared with a merge or clicker game, Search for the Needle! has an actual end point, and compared with a farm simulator it has no calendar or crop cycle to manage. It is a single job, done thoroughly, with just enough economy to make the next tool feel earned.
A word on the difficulty curve, because it is unusual. The game is hardest at the very beginning, when you have nothing but your hands and the pile is intact, and it gets easier the longer you play. That is the opposite of most arcade games and it is why the experience reads as relaxing rather than demanding: the frustration front-loads into the first few minutes, and everything after that is the pleasant part, watching the tools you bought pay off and the floor of the haystack slowly appear.
On LemonArcade the game runs directly in the browser through the Playhop embed, on both desktop (mouse) and mobile (touch). No account, download or purchase is needed to play. Any in-game shop items remain optional; the tools that matter for finding the needle are all earned by selling straw.
