About Super Tank 2D

Super Tank 2D is a top-down tank game from KATbIK STUDIOS about holding ground together. One or two players — sharing a single device — drive pixelated tanks through mission-based levels, cutting down waves of enemy armour, defending and demolishing bases, and facing oversized boss tanks, while a persistent upgrade system slowly turns their starting vehicle into something that can survive the later maps.

The lineage is unmistakable and openly worn. Top-down tanks, brick-and-steel bases, hordes of simple enemy vehicles: this is the Battle City template, the NES-era formula that a generation in Russia and Eastern Europe met on the Dendy, the famicom clone that defined 1990s console gaming there. The game's own pixel art deliberately echoes that Dendy period. Super Tank 2D modernises the skeleton — bosses, missions, an upgrade economy, pickups — without abandoning the readable, grid-flavoured battlefield that made the original teachable in one round.

Where the site's other same-device games are duels, this one is an alliance. Two players share one screen and fight the same waves, which changes the entire texture of play: the second tank is not an opponent to outwit but a lane to cover. Good duos split the map's approaches between them, trade off who chases pickups, and treat a partner's low health as a shared problem. Friendly fire on your attention is the real hazard — two tanks watching the same corridor means an undefended one somewhere else.

The upgrade loop is the long game stitched over the short one. Between missions you invest in your tank — armour, firepower, the qualities that decide whether a later wave is a fight or a massacre — and that permanent progress is deliberately separate from the temporary boosts found mid-level, which spike your capabilities for a moment and then expire. Missions gate the level list, so the structure always offers a next concrete goal rather than an endless arena.

It sits under 2 Players and 2D on LemonArcade, and the pairing describes it well: a cooperative couch game in an era when most two-player browser games are competitive. It suits pairs who would rather beat something together than each other, and solo players who want a retro-flavoured campaign with visible mechanical growth. The simple controls mean the entry cost is one minute; the upgrade wall means the exit is much further away.

Tips for Super Tank 2D

• In duo play, divide the map's approaches before the wave arrives and hold your lane. Two tanks guarding one corridor is the standard way bases fall.
• Prioritise upgrades that keep you alive over upgrades that kill faster in the early missions — a dead tank deals no damage, and the waves escalate before your firepower needs to.
• Save temporary boost pickups for boss encounters or wave spikes when you can. Spending a short power surge on routine enemies wastes the loop's best resource.
• Against bosses, keep rolling. Their heavy shots punish stationary tanks most, and circling forces long turret traversals while your partner works the flank.
• Replay cleared missions when a new level stonewalls you. Farming earlier maps to fund an upgrade is intended progression here, not cheating.
• On a shared device, put the more defensive player nearest the base. Temperament-based role assignment wins more late waves than identical loadouts do.

Did you know?

• The game descends from the Battle City formula of NES-era tank defence, and its pixel art deliberately recalls the Dendy — the famicom clone through which that formula reached millions of players in 1990s Russia.
• Two-player mode on a single device is cooperative rather than competitive: both tanks fight the same enemy waves, bases and bosses on one shared screen.
• Progress runs on two clocks at once — permanent between-mission tank upgrades, and temporary in-level skills and bonuses that boost the tank briefly before expiring.
• Levels unlock by completing missions, and the enemy roster scales up to massive boss tanks that dwarf the player vehicles.
